Membership
(1) Membership is open to persons interested in systems and synthetic biology or related activities without restriction as to sex, geographical location, nationality, ethnicity, race, or religion and to lawfully constituted institutions and societies in accordance with Rule 4 (1-5) of these Rules.
(2) The classes of membership shall be:
a) Full Membership (Ordinary/Life)
b) Student Membership
c) Honorary Membership
(3) Full Membership shall be open to persons with age of 21 who are or have been engaged in systems and synthetic biology or related activities. Life membership application is open to all full members of the Association and have been so for at least 3 years prior to their application.
(4) Student Membership shall be open to students of diploma and undergraduate students of colleges, and institutions of higher learning with age 18 years and above. Postgraduate students are, however, not eligible for Student Membership. University or University College students shall not be accepted as a member of the Association without prior approval of the Vice-Chancellor/Director of the University or University-College concerned.
(5) Honorary Membership may be awarded to persons who have rendered valuable service to the Association, or have made an outstanding or distinguished contribution Systems and Synthetic Biology or related activities. Election shall be by the unanimous decision of the Committee and confirmed subsequently by a majority vote at the Biennial general meeting. Honorary members are entitled to attend General Meetings but shall not be entitled to vote.
(6) Privileges of membership
a) Full and Honorary Members shall be entitled to all the privileges of the Association except that only those with age 21 years if age shall be eligible to serve on the Committee.
b) All classes of membership shall be entitled to one vote each with the exception of student and Honorary members.
c) Full and Honorary Members have the rights to inspect all records of the Association provided two week's written notice of such intention has been given to the Committee of the Association.
(7) Application of membership All applications for membership shall be submitted to the Secretary on the prescribed form. All those wishing to become members shall be proposed and seconded by members of the Association. The Committee shall be empowered to approve or reject any such application at its own discretion.
